I'm trying to see as my extended enforced rest as being a positive thing. I've been mostly working from home during COVID-19 lock-down and haven't really had a break. I know I've been very stressed and I'm definitely circling around mental burnout, so I know I need a mental rest as well as a physical one.

I can take the time to take a break, to relax and spend some time looking after Joey, rather than everyone else. I can trust my co-workers can cover my workload but also know that in an emergency, my manager can still reach out to me.

I can spend some time reading. My to-read pile is getting out of control. I'm currently re-reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. An old favourite, and it's where my user name comes from. The full quote is 'Some say the Tudors transcend this history, bloody and demonic as it is: that they descend from Brutus through the line of Constantine, son of St Helena, who was a Briton. Arthur, High King of Britain, was Constantine's grandson. He married up to three women, all called Guinevere, and his tomb is at Glastonbury, but you must understand that he is not really dead, only waiting his time to come again.'

I've also started reading (and this is where I make myself sound really fucking nerdy) Biology: How Life Works by James R. Morris - a biology text book that I'm reading because it looks interesting.

I can cuddle up with Talia (who sadly was furloughed but should hopefully be back in work by the end of the month!) and the cat and do some bingewatching TV and movies. Tally has been talking about wanting to watch some of the Classic Doctor Who on Britbox

I'm currently watching a lecture series on Amazon called The Black Death: The World's Most Devastating Plague, in case I wasn't flying my nerd pride flag high enough.

I can sleep. And fuck. I can draw, or paint, or knit. I could learn to crochet, or read tarot, or make candles. I could take an online course or two. I could teach Talia to bake.

I can practice being grateful.
Grateful that I 'only' broke my ankle falling downstairs and nothing more serious. Grateful that the cat was unharmed. Grateful that I have someone to look after me while I'm laid up. Grateful for a job that doesn't fire me for needing the next couple of months of during the pandemic.
