This Bisexual Prefers Blondes
Jul. 12th, 2020 07:43 pmUsually, as that there subject line suggests, I prefer blondes. Most of my fictional crushes have been on men and women with blonde hair. Currently we're looking at Thor or Captain Marvel or Harley Quinn or Seven Of Nine. Or the Thirteenth Doctor. Or Daenerys. Or Buffy or Sam Carter etc.
Side note: Tally is not blonde, go figure.
She does, however, have beautiful curly auburn hair ♥
But we've been watching Star Wars this last week. We've watched 1-6 so far, and we're starting the Sequel Trilogy (which neither of us have seen) tonight. And I'd forgotten how much I adore Luke (blonde-ish, at least), Han and Leia. And I may have come out of the prequel trilogy with slight crushes on Obi-Wan and Padme.
The Original Trilogy are still my favourites. I don't know how many times I've seen them, I can quote most of them but I still get really nervous when Luke goes in for his shot at the Death Star, and I sit there with my fingers crossed and cheer. I still flail when Luke loses his hand, the "I am your father" gets me every time. It's great story-telling that even though I know what's coming, I get so caught up in the story that I still react.
The Prequel Trilogy I appreciated more as an (and I use this term loosely) adult. Especially watching them back-to-back and seeing how carefully, calculatedly and skillfully Palpatine manipulates Anakin - pretty chilling, actually. The Jedi really should have let a more experienced Knight train Anakin- maybe one who had, idk, experience in doing so? I wonder if things would have turned out differently? Poor kid was doomed from the start.
I'm nervous about starting the Sequels. I've heard so much about them, and such a mixture of good and bad. I'm mostly excited about meeting new characters, seeing old friends and having new adventures... but there's that edge of hoping Disney haven't fucked it up.
We're also planning on watching Rogue One, Solo and The Mandalorian - I've only heard good things about Rogue One and Mandalorian, and mixed about Solo. I guess we'll find out over the next few days.
This was not going to be a Star Wars post, but apparently it now is.

Date: 2020-07-12 06:58 pm (UTC)I love the original trilogy, barely managed to sit through the first two of the prequel films. Actually, I fell asleep during the second and I've never seen the third. I'm considering watching the sequels just because of the old friends aspect but it's not high on my priority list.
Love The Mandalorian though!

Date: 2020-07-12 07:00 pm (UTC)Yay for watching Star Wars! Lemme know what you think! (Have you seen Rogue One or Solo?)
That’s adorable🖤 I came into Star Wars when the OT came out as special editions and from them was hooked.
The whole prequel trilogy is a tragedy (even more so with the Clone Wars too). But yeah you have to wonder how things would have gone differently there. But then the Jedi always seemed... incompetent?
I hope you enjoy the ST, I won’t tell you my thoughts until after though.
And there you answer my question! I love them all for different reasons. Solo, I thought, was really fun and it makes me long for a more with Lando.

Date: 2020-07-17 08:00 am (UTC)Solo was an awesome romp - reminded me of Firefly in a lot of ways. Han definitely has a heart of gold, this just proves it and I thought the kids playing him and Lando were perfect!
I can't make my mind up about the sequel trilogy. There's things I loved, there's things I thought were good stories but executed badly (in a similar vein to the prequels actually). There were a lot of plot points that seemed to be skipped in favour of stunning visuals. I know I missed a lot in Rise Of Skywalker because I was crying over Leia. I can't decide if I thought the similarities between the stories in the sequels to the originals were a hat-tip or just plain fucking laziness that pissed me off, there were definitely many moments of 'well we've seen this before'
I utterly adore Rey, Finn and Poe. And Rey/Finn/Poe. BB-8 is just adorable. I want a Porg. Part of me loves the 'she's Palpatine's grandaughter' because I loved the juxtaposition of the hero's kid being the bad guy and the villain's kid saving the day - but I think I would have preferred her to have stayed Rey from nowhere. I didn't like the whole Kylo/Rey thing, it felt far too forced and I don't like Kylo as a character, and he certainly didn't do anything to deserve 'redemption'. Rey taking the Skywalker name made me tear up. I know I actually missed a lot in Rise Of Skywalker due to crying.
Overall, I gave them 7 or 8 out of 10. Pretty damn good, enjoyed them as movies in their own right, there were more things I loved than I didn't.
My parents are coming over this afternoon for the weekend so we're not starting The Mandalorian until Monday. I'm looking forward to it though.

Date: 2020-07-17 10:54 am (UTC)By contrast Solo is so fun! I’d really love to see more of them. (I don’t get why people missed out on it cause I love it!)
Oh I really agree with you there! There was so many potential things that just seemed to be... not followed through and you can tell in places that there wasn’t really a overarching plan. I always got the sense that each one was meant to be focussed on one of the main characters from the OT (ie TFA Han, TLJ Luke and ROS Leia) but Carrie’s death kinda... 💔 I’m still sad about that (and yeah they coulda edited TLJ so she died there but I’m glad they didn’t)
I love the trio and the porgs! I have so many plush porgs, yeah I agree there. *hugs*
Yeah I think Rise had a lot of issues and I’m not sure how I feel about it overall. I hate how they set up Kylo as a villain through the trilogy only to go ‘BAM here’s Palpatine and he was behind it all’ and then redeem him like that. I think I’d have preferred it if Kylo was the villain and no Palpatine. (And don’t get me started on stuff like the fetch quest and Poe, needlessly, being a spice runner out of nowhere.) and I wish we’d got Finn/Poe so badly
*ramble over*
Ohh I hope they have a nice visit! I love the Mandalorian so much, it ends up being so.., unexpected
